AQA mark schemes require modelling assumptions (e.g. "the string is light and inextensible") to be stated explicitly as a separate step — using an assumption implicitly, even correctly, does not earn the mark.
"Prove" and "Show that" questions in AQA's formal mathematical language require justification at every step — working that jumps between steps without stated justification loses marks even with the correct final answer.
A correct statistical calculation without a stated interpretation in the context of the question loses the marks attached specifically to interpretation — a frequent and avoidable loss.

Grade thresholds vary by session based on paper difficulty and cohort performance. AS Level is graded A to E only — there is no A* at AS.
